Monthly Art Challenge / December

DECEMBER

I had big dreams for the month’s challenge. I was going to do some research on other artists, look at their color usage, mimic their forms and integrate their work with mine somehow. It was going to be oh so educational. Fate had other plans, per usual.

The beginning of the month was Pencils of Promise’s gala which always takes all of my attention for a few weeks, but I thought for sure after that there would be a calm and I would be able to create some magic before the holidays. Before that happened, my dad ended up in the hospital and all plans were immediately put to the side so I could be in Milwaukee with him. Luckily, he pulled through and is doing so much better now and I was still able to make some art in between the craziness that is life even if they don’t fit with the challenge.

So that’s a wrap on 2017 and my monthly art challenges. What I’ve learned over the year and with all these challenges that pushed my artmaking has been invaluable. As amazing as it has been, I’m eager to create without parameters. Maybe someday I’ll make another set of challenges for myself but for 2018 I’m setting myself free and using what I’ve learned over the past year to make more art.
